the Femmes, Fishbone
Jun. 29th, 1991 07:30 pmThe second time I saw the Femmes brought in to headline a national alternative tour. This time it was Jellyfish, Fishbone and... not sure. I think Jellyfish was the opener. They were an alternative kind of neo-psychedelic outfit. I guess Fishbone would have been the pre-Femmes headliner. I'm guessing there was a third band, but I can't think who it was.
Fishbone was the most memorable act of the night. A very freaky funky outift. Guitar, horns, funk soul and hard rock. Lead singer, Angelo was a wild man. He did some crowd surfing, and came our way. My ticket stub says row D at Marcus, but it seems like we were farther out than that. Angelo came our way, but as soon as I reached up and touched his arm, he fell. The girls next to me propped him up as he sang a bit. It was a hot night, and the band had sweat pouring off of them.
The Femmes were touring in support of Why Do Birds Sing? They had us do a dance during "Flamingo." They told us to raise one leg in the air (like a flamingo), and when they sang "when it comes down" we should put our feet down. Phil was pretty disgusted by this little joke. My sister and her friend Terri were there with us. Or were we with them?
This was back in the day that mainstage acts were not full price, for what a standalone concert would have been. Red section, five dollars.
